A Cybertour of Our Venue
Welcome to our wedding venue. We'll be having a small intimate wedding and want to give you a preview of the place we have booked - it's Cecil Green Park House at UBC.
This picture shows the front of Cecil Green, when walking from the road. Cecil Green, a businessman and philanthropist, never actually lived in this house, but he grew up very modestly in Vancouver. He graduated from UBC and went on to found Texas Instruments. He and his wife bought and donated this house to UBC. Cecil Green also donated to schools like M.I.T. and U.C.S.D.
Welcome! This is the front door!
On your right through the foyer is the library. The bridal parties will be arranging last minutes details in here. There's even a phone - great for those last minute panicky calls to the caterer!
Hopefully we won't need this library fireplace in May!
Oops... you can't go in there, that's where I'll be changing. This picture shows the bride's dressing room, which is off the library.
Here's the coat room, where guests can (duh) hang up their coats!
This is the main room, also known as the Langara room. Langara was one of the later names of the house, which went through several identities before being known as "Cecil Green."
The upstairs is off-limits, but this beautiful railing took over a year to carve!
There's also a grand piano and a lovely view from Langara room...
but guests can also see the view from the beautiful terrace.
We may have our ceremony on the beautiful covered verandah...
or we may choose to have it out on the lawn. This garden was once much larger, complete with tennis courts, croquet lawns, a rose garden and a classical Italian garden. However, two-thirds of the property has been lost to erosion.
After the ceremony, dinner will be served in the yellow Yorkeen room...
We hope guests will then come sign our guestbook, which we might put in this lovely conservatory.
They can stop to look at the view on the way out.
Finally, after dinner we'll have some dancing in the Kanakla room. Kanakla is the original name of the house, and it was called that when it was built in 1912. At that time, the house was a get-away for the Vancouver Davis family. The tram line didn't extend as far as the house, so the it was out in the country. The home had no electricity and water came from a stream flowing across what is now UBC campus.
The three rooms, Kanakla, Langara and Yorkeen make up the downstairs and flow together like this.(Here we see the Langara and Yorkeen rooms from Kanakla.)
We hope our guests will stop and look at the beautiful woodwork...
