Lune de miel

The honeymoon is now officially booked.
Dig * these * links. We all know what Julian will be excited about... but personally I can't wait for a little of this and that.

The Dress is In!

I got the call a few days ago that the dress is in! Can't wait to go try it on, but unfortunately I think I have to put off that fun task until my examination schedule is finished. I'm still debating veil vs. veil-less.

First Dance

We've decided on our first dance song! Very exciting. Of course, we can't reveal it here because there must be some surprises... however it is absolutely perfect. We hadn't really had any 'contenders' up until now, because although there are many songs we both like, none of them are really appropriate first dance songs. But Julian was listening to CBC's 50 Tracks (don't bother clicking there right now as the strike means the site is temporarily down) yesterday and he heard a great song by a Canadian band that is a PERFECT slow dance song. I loved it immediately.

Also, my brother Tony has agreed to take charge of the music at the party. (Tony, you can come up with your own title if you want.) We know that he'll have the right mix of indie hits along with a few cheesy favourites to get everyone dancing. (After all this is the man who ordered the entire Time-Life Best of the 80s series.) Other family members beware, I have tasks for you too. Matt, I've got something in mind that capitalises on your own skills!

Changes

Julian and I recently moved into our own place. Hence, the lack of updates. So far we are loving the new place and have got it almost presentable. We will be posting pictures of the place once we've got our new sofa in, which we are eagerly awaiting.

Perhaps more importantly... the dress has been bought!

Cupcakes

Well, in our constant quest, Julian and I went down to Denman street last night to sample cupcakes. This is something we've been thinking about as an alternative to a wedding cake because you can stack them all on a tower and they look supercute.

Can I just say DELICIOUS!!! They were fantastic - light and fluffy so they melted in your mouth. Julian describes them as follows: "The words that come to mind are rich, dense but fluffy, perfect icing, the best icing I've ever had. It was the best icing and the best cake I've ever had." (Better than MY cake? Julian is backtracking on those comments now.) So, I think he's got his heart set on those cupcakes!! They were also extremely filling, which is something I was sort of worried about. Sometimes one cupcake isn't enough, but in this case, it's MORE than enough. I think we will have to do a lot more sampling before the big day though!

Filed under "Are you *$#!-ing nuts?"

I'd read a review of this place once before and it sounded great. Luxury camping! The rates don't really appear that clearly on the website so I thought I'd write and ask them for fun.

The response is below:

Hi Hilary

I'm sorry about any confusion. The package that runs for 7 nights is priced at $9,450 CAD per person and the package that is priced at $5,700 CAD per person is a 4 night package. The packages are the same in what we offer. The only difference is that the 4 night stay includes 2 hours of massage services and 2 half day fishing allowances and the 7 night package includes 5 hours of massage services and 2 full day or 4 half day fishing allowances. [...] Please feel free to ask more questions to acquire the proper information you need.

Have a great day.

They said some other nice stuff but my eyes glazed over after that paragraph. I truly wonder WHO ON EARTH would pay such a ridiculous amount!!! Even the place where Jen and Ben got married is looking affordable compared to that. (I couldn't resist sneaking a peek to see where Bennifer II wed.)

Anyway I am finding some much more reasonable places and I think closer to the time I'd actually book I may have a vote!!! So keep your eye out for that! But remember to keep mum for Julian. I will warn him not to check the site when the poll is up. Bride-to-be reserves veto right.

Drool...

Well Julian has put me in charge of the honeymoon... and it's going to be my little project, and hopefully a surprise if I can keep it that way.

As he said "If you think it's because I'm just trying to get out of the planning, well, you wouldn't be entirely wrong." Hey, no arguments here! Besides, to give the man some credit, he has been pretty involved. While he's not agonising over centerpieces with me, he has taken on some good wedding planning duties.

Anyway, I've been doing research in places like Modern Bride. That wasn't a good idea as most of their recommendations are super-pricey and rather uninspired. But reading through Amazon reviews I was referred to some better books, and then to a website. Ohmigod some of these places look amazing. Just browsing through this website is going to give me plenty of leisure time I think. I'm also ordering this book for some ideas. I should really start a wedding books page here with reviews of some of the items I'm using. Another time perhaps.

More Done!

Well, we booked our photographer. For those of you keen to check out her (their) work, this is their site. Now Martha recommends that you interview at least three photographers before picking one, but I think you can do a lot on the web these days. I pored through dozens of sites and got a good idea of prices and services offered. I think we did well on this one, particularly as pictures are very important to me. We are getting two photographers instead of a photographer and assistant. We'll be getting a great mix of black and white pictures as well. I also violated Martha's advice on another front as she recommends going digital. However, I wanted to keep the negatives. After all, who knows when CD-ROMs are going to become obselete? With this photographer I get the best of both worlds as I can keep the negatives and get everything on disk to share with friends and families.

As to other things, I am already rethinking our wedding colours. At first I was thinking we should be all white and green and very simple, sort of like this bride here.

But then I remembered that the room where the reception will likely be is yellow. I think anyway, as we haven't figured out what will be where exactly. But that got me thinking, maybe I should just go pink or go home? But I still kind of want to keep the green.

Wedding Colours

Well, we have moved out of the "pre-preliminary" stage and into the preliminary stage. We've called some venues and are planning out the basics of the ceremony. After much friendly debate, we have a vision for our small wedding. We may have a date set within the next few weeks.

Perhaps most importantly we have chosen our colours! All the books say it is very important to have colours. And so, as reflected on the website, our colours are going to be white and green.
